Above is the official data from the U.S. Department of Health regarding the waiting time of the most in demand organ transplants. For most this is between one to two years if not even longer. This represents a serious issue in public health in America and globally.
According to organdonar.gov 20 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant. Every 10 minutes another adult is added to the organ donor list.
Considering this problem the advances in 3D printed organs will present a monumental shift in global health.
Less than a year ago the first ever 3D-printed heart from actual human tissue was created. It is only the size of a rabbit's heart, but it has been called a medical breakthrough nonetheless. And provides a possible look into a new world of organ transplants and global health.
