John Hopkins University database was used to see the states which had the most active corona cases in Australia:
New South Wales has more than 1,500 cases, followed by Queensland and Western Australia. Northern Territory has the least number of confirmed, active, and recovered cases. Sydney, the capital of New South Wales, has the largest number of confirmed and active cases.
The decision to open the beaches at this time, as mentioned in the BBC News, will be interesting to follow to see the trajectory of infection rates after reopening. Since Australia has one of highest rates of testing currently, useful insights might be available about the effectiveness of widespread testing approach in mitigating risk of second wave of infection possible with reopening.
